Leading Through

Activating the Soul, Heart, and Mind of Leadership✨

At 1for2 Social Innovation, we believe that Attention is our Craft, and that meaningful leadership reaches far beyond organizational outcomes. It’s about recognizing and nurturing human potential, helping individuals and teams to thrive by enhancing communication, understanding behavior, and building connections.

Recently, we enjoyed engaging with insights from Leading Through: Activating the Soul, Heart, and Mind of Leadership by Kim B. Clark, Jonathan R. Clark, and Erin E. Clark. This transformational model for leadership speaks to our core values, offering a refreshing shift from the old hierarchical systems that focused on ‘power over’ individuals. Instead, Leading Through inspires leaders to activate “power through” people, creating an environment that fosters innovation, compassion, and integrity.

Embracing a New Leadership Paradigm

The Leading Through framework emphasizes three pillars of leadership—the soul, heart, and mind—that resonate strongly with our approach:

  • The Soul: At 1for2 Social Innovation, we recognize the soul of leadership as a moral force that seeks to “generate light” in the workplace. Just as the Clarks describe, leadership in its truest form strives to elevate ethical standards and enact values that create a lasting positive impact. This moral foundation is particularly vital in our work as confidential counselors, where safeguarding psychological safety and fostering ethical decision-making form the core of our services.
  • The Heart: People are the essence of our mission. In line with Leading Through, we believe leadership must cultivate environments where individuals feel connected, inspired, and valued. Erin captures this beautifully, saying, “To see people for who they are, we can unlock human potential.” This means embracing organizational structures—such as hierarchy and principles—not to stifle growth but to support it with true information and intentional transparency, leading to stronger, more sustainable outcomes.
  • The Mind: As described by the Clarks, leadership’s mind is action-oriented, focusing on initiative, mobilization, and empowerment. At 1for2 Social Innovation, we see this as the bridge between vision and practice, guiding leaders to identify challenges, bring the right people together, and empower teams to pursue sustainable, meaningful change. Our training and coaching programs are designed to equip leaders with the tools to navigate this complex landscape confidently.

A Framework for Lasting Impact💡

The Clarks’ work lays a roadmap for leadership in today’s transparent, interconnected world, offering actionable steps for leaders at every level. Their modular leadership system, rooted in standards, principles, and a shared sense of purpose, aligns closely with our own mission to help leaders and organizations drive change that endures. This model is about embracing leadership as a force for good—encouraging leaders to realize the potential within themselves and their teams, a goal we hold at the heart of every client relationship.

As Kim B. Clark eloquently puts it, “helping people realize more fully their potential is one of the most important things that leaders do.” This message is central to our work at 1for2 Social Innovation. We believe that every leader has a role in fostering a culture of respect, growth, and shared values, ultimately driving organizational success and individual fulfillment.
